Apple Crest Inn B&B

The owners' love for travel is reflected in the decor at the Apple Crest Inn, a Victorian manor B&B located in Gentry at the edge of the Ozarks.  Living in Nigeria and Singapore plus several states from Hawaii to Georgia, the owners, Gary and Dianne Affolter, decided to open their own B&B after returning to the United States following their years in the mission field.  Having stayed in B&Bs around the world, the Affolters decided they should offer their guests quiet and relaxed luxury accommodations where hectic lifestyles could be calmed and peace restored.  

Built in 1998, the Inn is a copy of a manor home from the 1890's and was mistakenly listed as a historic residence by a local historian.  The grounds are rich in history from the Civil War to the Trail of Tears, its southern boundary, and its first deed was signed by President Rutherford B. Hayes.

The Inn features six guest rooms with decor gathered from travels around the world.  The "Wedgwood Suite" is a tribute to Josiah Wedgwood's original Jasperware plates detailing England's most famous buildings and bridges.  The "Safari Room" has carvings and weavings collected while living in Nigeria, and the "Acropolis Suite" has statuary and museum copies of Grecian artifacts.  Both of the suites are favorites for honeymooners, and the Acropolis Room has Gary's mother's wedding dress from 1945 hanging on one wall.  Other rooms offer collections the Affolters have gathered during their travels such as the "Orchard Room" with an apple from over 50 different countries.  The "Camelot Room" has several pieces of antique armour from the 1600's, and the "Rose Room" has heirloom quilts, miniature oil lamps, and antique wicker discovered in Singapore and rescued for use in the Inn.

Each room has a distinct flavor all its own.  Some of the tiles were handmade especially for the Inn, and 18 panels of leaded glass were designed and created by Dianne right on the grounds during construction of the Inn. All rooms have high ceilings, and a turret rises 25 feet in the Wedgwood Suite.  Four of the rooms have double whirlpool tubs and the other rooms have restored and refinished antique claw-footed tubs.  All rooms also have showers, cable TV, high speed wireless internet, phones and sitting areas.

Common rooms are open to all guests and offer unique handmade block puzzles (available for sale), a book library and a VCR library.  The wrap-around porch has rockers where guests can watch birds, squirrels, or marmots, and many days, weddings take place on the spacious grounds.  With four acres of property, there is plenty of room for everyone.

Breakfasts are special at the Apple Crest Inn B&B, and from the candlelight, linens, china, and fresh flowers to the specialty breads, fruit and main course item, care is taken to delight the guests with special aromas and tasty, nutritious foods.  Snacks are available at all times, and guests enjoy homemade cookies and sodas whenever they wish.  In the evening, they find "traubensaft" (grape juice) and chocolates in their rooms.

The Apple Crest Inn also hosts weddings and receptions from simple to elaborate including dance floors, tables, tents, flowers and full meals.  Brides can indulge themselves with pre-wedding specials such as manicures, pedicures, massage, hair and make-up designers.  The Inn can arrange horse and carriage departures as well.  The house accommodates wedding parties up to 30 individuals, and the grounds can accommodate up to 500 people.

The Apple Crest Inn is outside Gentry's town limits, so it has a rural feeling.  Gentry, however, is only a few miles away from Walmart's headquarters in Bentonville, the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, or John Brown University in Siloam Springs.  We are also located only ten miles from Northwest Arkansas' Regional Airport (XNA), so we're just a few minutes away from great shopping, golf courses, antique shops, caves, rivers, eagle watching reserves, and state parks.

Northwest Arkansas is home of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, and game weekends find the Inn filled with both Arkansas and visiting team fans.  Fayetteville also features Bikes, Blues and BBQs weekend in the Fall when more than 350,000 bikers visit the area.  With off-street parking, the Apple Crest Inn is the perfect place for bikers to call home during these events.  We also have the famous War Eagle Craft Fair weekend when 10 or more venues offer the best in crafts from around the world.  The antique Arkansas-Missouri train runs from March to November taking guests from Springdale to Van Buren, and the Apple Crest Inn can pack a special breakfast for guests experiencing this day trip.  We are also only an hour from the Victorian town of Eureka Springs.
